A popular home improvement trend is radiant floor heat. Daflure can install a radiant heater in New Cumberland, PA, in select rooms or throughout a home. One of the great benefits of radiant floor heating is how heat flows through a room. Bottom-to-top heating provides a warmth and consistency that other heating systems don’t deliver. Other advantages include feeling the warmth in the flooring and zero impact on indoor air quality.
"I have used Daflure for the last 8-9 years. Great service, friendly and knowledgeable technicians."
Two core types of radiant floor heating are available: electric and hydronic. Electric panels are often the most affordable but can be more expensive to run due to the price of electricity. For this reason, we frequently use them in select rooms where you won’t always run the heat, such as bathrooms. Consider carbon fiber panels if you want electric panels throughout the home. They cost more but are about five times more efficient.
Hydronic radiant floor heating has floor panels connected to a boiler. This approach allows you to mix and match. You could, for instance, have floor panels in some rooms and wall radiators in others. A common question is whether you can add panels to an existing boiler. You can, but it’s often easier to install all the equipment at the same time. If you opt for upgrading, our plumber will need to add equipment to the boiler that facilitates the new function.
With both electric and hydronic systems, you have the option of zone control. This requires additional equipment and will increase the cost of the installation. That said, the investment is generally worth it for the energy savings. For instance, you can keep the bedrooms warm at night but the rest of the home at a lower temperature.
When installing floor heating, you’ll generally need to replace your flooring surfaces right after the HVAC installation. Nearly all flooring surfaces are compatible. Still, some surfaces complement floor heating better than others. You can explore this with our installers during the project’s planning phase.
